First had been full for most of the day, and sitting at #6 on the upgrade list, it did not look like I had a chance of clearing. As I was sitting at the gate and constantly refreshing the UG lis / booking dummy fares, I saw that space opened up in F, all the way down to PZ1. Being on an M fare, I went to manage my reservation and saw that the button for complimentary upgrade on a premium fare was clickable - I clicked it and immediately cleared into F.
F is now full again and I am off the upgrade list. I have to assume that if I passively waited, I would not have cleared, but because spaced opened up and I was opportunistic, I took advantage of my YBM instant upgrade. I have been able to do this clearing in PZ w/ PlusPoints as well (when I was not waitlisted.)
Its not a glitch, it just meant that no one was waitlisted for PN so once it opened up you were able to clear into it though the link. YBM fares clear into PN, not PZ. Indeed, had you waited the seat would have been taken via other means: someone SDCing, a buy up, a misconnect, CPU higher on the list, so on and so forth. It pays to babysit reservations.
