Marriott gift cards have evolved towards the status of funny money. When Marriott used Visa as their gift card vendor, there was never a problem since any hotel could swipe the card as a Visa transaction and it was opaque to the FD that it was a gift card being used. Fast forward to 2010s when GiveX became the card vendor, the problems began since there were many more steps for FDs to learn and many hotels didn't bother to train. I will burn my remaining Marriott gift cards and be done. Not worth the trouble even when they're being sold at a 20% discount.
