I agree with this. That why we've also started booking the category of room that we like there, with any upgrade just being gravy. But our last experience was worse than not getting an upgrade. Being stuck in a noisy room by the elevators with two connecting doors and no working HVAC for two days was unacceptable by any standard, elite or not. We both voted it by far our worst experience in 18 years/2700 nights with Marriott. Agree that the guest experience here is really inconsistent, but has also gone downhill in recent years.
At the Sheraton Waikiki or the Marriott? Why is the FD or management not doing anything to resolve your concerns? An elite member even assigned to their booked category should not be put in a less desirable room location and should be prioritized for better room assignments. You should be moved immediately to a better room, and the next non-status person to check-in should be given your existing room after the AC is repaired.
