The day before check-in we got a text message asking the names and ages of our party. I did ask if there was a suite available; we'd be interested. Nothing was promised, just noted. When we checked in, the front desk said they upgraded us to the Ohana Suite.
As long as this is the actual 2 bedroom "Ohana" suite and not the larger guest room with 3-4 twin beds, then you scored OK.
If only the guest experience here could be more consistent. For the past year I've just been booking the premium Diamond Head ocean view room at the Marriott and calling it a day as I expect (and receive) absolutely nothing in terms of upgrades, Elite loyalty recognition or anything else there, and it's less stressful to know you're getting absolutely nothing than to worry about arguing with the FD over something you think you should be getting, having paid a large premium for the Sheraton or Moana vs a lower cost room at the Marriott.
