PreCovid and more flights if you did that with one of the last rows it probably would have worked. Nowadays I find even the last row is full
Correct, not also that, but typically middle seats tend to cheaper as oppose aisle/window, which tend to have a premium fee attached to it. Still, as you mentioned, you are running the risk of being stuck in the middle for the flight. Short flight <2hrs, no problem, I deal with it, but not on longer flights.
