It was a win because prepaid was the only FHR option available when I booked - I don't know why, but I tried multiple booking flows and none surfaced a postpaid option. For several reasons, I will book postpaid FHR when available. I'm still glad I did this as the $100 resort credit and free breakfast were much more valuable than base points on $100. Plus, I didn't have to waste time with customer service.
But presumably you could've booked the same rate using a travel agent with the same benefits as FHR, daily breakfast, $100 credit and room upgrade?
I can see on balance why it's a "win" but a true win would be Marriott fixing the system so that FHR rates booked prepaid which is points and nights eligible are credited correctly.
