This moron FT'er did the same thing on a trip to Malaysia. My first trip to KL, and so I asked the guru at the duty free shop at my home airport about what type of plugs are used in Malaysia. He sold me the adapter her assured me was correct. When I got there, I find they don't use the one he sold me, but a standard UK type plug! Oh great, now I can't plug in the laptop at my hotel, nor charge my new shaver I bought at the same DF shop.
The hotel bathroom has a universal shaver outlet. So the shaver charge process was simple. Once that was charged, I tried the laptop in the same outlet and there was sufficient power to charge it.
Next day I picked up an adapter from a local outlet for a fraction of the price at the DF shop back home!
