I have had luck with the IC that I use the most frequently - Doral, FL. Last week I booked the basic king room for a 1 night stay and they upgraded me to a Club King. They have done this for me before. However, I'm a fairly frequent guest at this hotel (10 stays a year maybe), so that might have some impact on the upgrade. Their lounge is lovely, so I was very happy. I enjoyed the Peruvian Ceviche!
