I think his point is that he values the points he is spending at $600 ... as against the prices of $900 and up, as you mention.
Even at 2 cents a point -- which is how I think of Hyatt points -- it has been (and probably will be) a while since cash beats points at this place, even with the higher points prices.
Which may be why there are huge dry patches where you cannot (last time I looked) book a room here on points.
