This is what I would think instinctively with no insider knowledge. Embarrassing and possibly destructive for a slide to deploy outside of an emergency but totally disastrous to be limited to only evacuating through the armed doors when there may already be a reduction in usable exits.
Question for those in the know - how many incidents have there been of slides not deploying when needed and for what reasons?
