I'm an Ambassador Elite, if that makes any difference in upgrade chances. This will be my first time at the W, but not in Amsterdam (was last here 10 years ago and stayed at the Pulitzer back when it was still SPG).
I'm currently in a Wonderful Exchange, Guest room, 1 King, City view (25sqm/269sqft). The following are the options I get for requesting an upgrade using SNAs:
- Studio Bank Suite, 1 King (45sqm/484sqft)
- Cool Corner Exchange Suite, 1 King (40sqm/430sqft)
- Marvelous Bank 1 Bedroom Bi-level Loft, 1 King, Bedroom is a loft (40sqm/430sqft)
Marvelous Exchange 1 Bedroom Bi-level Suite, 1 King, Bedroom is a loft, Atrium view (40sqm/430sqft)
- Fabulous Bank Guest room, 1 King, Canal view (24sqm/258sqft)
Fabulous Bank Guest room, 2 Twin/Single Bed(s), City view (24sqm/258sqft)
- Fabulous Bank Guest room, 1 King, City view (24sqm/258sqft)
I've already ruled out the Marvelous Exchange Bi-Level Suite with the Atrium view, as I'd really prefer looking out to the city, even if it is noisier. I've also ruled out the Fabulous Bank room with 2 beds, as I'm likely going to be there alone at least most of the time. I also don't know if I'm interested in the Marvelous Bank Bi-Level... from what I've seen, the layout is a bit funky and narrow.
So, with the desire to have a city view, which suites/rooms would you suggest apply for? Which should be avoided? Is it worth "upgrading" from a Wonderful Exchange to a Wonderful Bank, even though the Bank room is actually 11 sqft. smaller? Any other thoughts on the rooms here? Just FYI, I'm here on leisure and staying alone (I have family staying at the Pulitzer at the same time).
Thanks in advance for any input.
First things first - always stay on the Bank side here. You have easy access to the excellent spa, the lovely Duchess restaurant, and the gym (although the gym may have actually moved now). The ambience on the Bank side is also far more tranquil and much less millennial Instagram influencer (I am 31) - it’s a proper luxury ambience.
In terms of room, the bilevel marvellous Bank suite is my favourite room I’ve had there - we’ve stayed a few times. It’s plenty roomy and very quiet. We were once upgraded to a Fabulous Bank corner room when all the suites were sold out, which was very quiet and had a bath - that was also fun. The bilevel suite is about twice the size of that though, but it does lack the bath.
Final recommendation - try the cheesy pasta at the Duchess
