What I mean by that is I know numerous coworkers and colleagues who were “introduced” to the SkyClub by someone using a guest pass on them, and that guest found value in the experience and in turn got a membership for themselves through one of the Amex’s.

Indirectly you could argue that the guests passes increase club memberships, which in turn creates bigger crowds. But I don’t think reducing SkyClub memberships, however they are “paid” for is something DL would see a business benefit in pursuing.
And it's a nice benefit for Delta cardholders that helps distinguish them between Platinum cardholders. Reserve cardholders can't guest in people in the Centurion Lounges and currently Centurion cardholers have guesting privlidges in those lounges so it's fair to only offer the benefit to reserve card holders
I have both a personal and business reserve card and rarely use my four passes every year.
