A lot of folks here talking about the various promos that AC has done, but one thing that is not a promo but a standard benefit is the 25K status for $15K spend on the Chase card.
The status is valid through to the end of the following calendar year. So if you want to really push the boundaries of being a "fake" elite you can just adjust your statement close date, overpay 15K to the IRS every other January for $280 in fees, and get it back in your tax refund likely before your card payment is due. $280 for 18,500 AP miles and two years of 25K status.
Obviously this is an extreme case but 15K is not a lot of spend for 25K status. Entry status, but it's now pretty easy to book a bunch of transcon latitude fares with points and eUp to signature service immediately. This is what I've been doing instead of buying another flight pass for SFO<->YYZ, and like mentioned earlier in the thread it dries up the R space for business travelers booking this route close-in.
Curious how the longer term and higher level elites that fly AC think this will be handled. Do the latitude point rates go up? Do they change the clearance window for points vs cash latitude? Increase eUps required (it's already higher than cash). More spend needed for 25K status? Or maybe the Chase card which is targeted at US residents is not going to be largely impactful on the number of elites that actually fly the airline frequently?
