Ok, I did a search for previous threads on this and found some info but would like to get other thoughts on which line to use in my and my wifes case.

I am a US citizen and my wife is not and travels on Advanced Parole until her green card is approved. We have only traveled outside the US once since her parole was issued and when returning to ORD I just instinctively went to the US Residents line (with my wife with me). Well, we where the first ones in line and went right up to the immigration officer, he didnt look pleased and seemed about to tell us to go to "the other line" but at that point the person handling the lines shouted to the officers that he was allowing non-residents in the residents line.

Just curious if there is any specific documentation or rules on this? I cant find any. Interested in hearing other peoples experiences as to which line they use etc especially at ORD which is where we will be entering the US most of the time. Since the green card process takes no less than 2 years....we will be dealing with it for a long time.
