I’d go with non stop over the PHX layover option. If you are traveling in a non peak time I might gamble on the upgrade on AA and the DFW Capital One lounge (which is great) but only if there was a desirable seat in coach that I could guarantee as a default. If traveling at peak time I think your chances of an upgrade may be slim, Hawaii flights are busy and a lot of people are booking at fairly short notice.
