The thing about rideshare is to keep the destination hidden from the drivers in order to prevent drivers to deny service to "unfavorable" areas. This was due to old issues with taxi drivers that will not service certain areas. This is one of the things that got rideshare service approval.
The flip side is now drivers are cherry picking on rides in order to maximize their profit. As
storewanderer mentioned, drivers are not compensated properly and unfortunately riders will suffer for this. In a perfect world, the rider will be matched to a driver that has no problem with the destination, thing is, how much is the rider willing to pay, and how long they are willing to wait for that to happen.
Uber/Lyft tend to keep at least 40% of the fare you are being charged, and sometimes they do not even pass the full surge pricing to the driver, in case you where not aware of that. I used to be a Uber driver, and know full well how much they take. One trick I used while driving was using 2 phones, one as a driver, the other as a rider. The surge charge to riders was higher than what I was getting as a driver.
