Just guessing here, but I'm sure that most retailers wouldn't mind if you did it by arrangement. What they get upset about is when you turn up at, say, 8 am on a sunny summer's morning and buy all the strawberries in the shop. It causes aggravation when other customers don't get a fair crack of the whip, and even with the best distribution logistics they probably can't get it restocked until the next day. Whereas if you pre-arrange it, they can order it in; end of problem.
