I recently flew to PHX for three nights and we decided to spend a day in Sedona, and another doing a Grand Canyon hike. Visiting the Grand Canyon was a spectacular highlight. If you're inclined to drive for a few hours (beautiful drive! but it's far), it's totally worth it to head that way
