As far as OTP goes, the HGI is walkable and good. There are no other chain hotels nearby. The other issue is that there is a divided highway with no cross traffic allowed for miles except at the airport. So if you choose another hotel, either on the same side of the highway as the airport or the opposite side, to get back to the airport (or to the hotel) you have to drive miles out of the way to the next bridge/exit. There are plenty of taxis available and machines which you can use to order one but you will need Lei to pay (ATM's available in the arrivals hall). If you go that route, the closest chain hotel (besides the HGI), is, I think, the Crowne Plaza. Or some Ramada. But they're not sufficiently cheaper or nicer than the HGI to make it worth your while, especially for a quick overnight (the independent hotels near the airport are often a good deal price-wise). Different if you want to do some sightseeing in Bucharest the day before your flight but then you're better off a someplace near the old town.
