That pedantry aside, note the placard above the jack is labeled "MODEM CONNECTION" -- I doubt that it, if there is anything on the other end, it is most certainly not any form of Ethernet and rather an analog telephone line for modems (ahh,.. remember the dulcet tones of beeeep...screeeeeeeeeeech..tone...screeeceechhhhhh hhh....) and I can't remember the last time I had a laptop with a modem, let alone using said modem. Your laptop presumably has WiFi... and I'm pretty sure it needs to MOdulate and DEModulate the signals that are being sent by radio on the WiFi carrier wave.

Every WiFi device contains a modem.
As for the type of modem you're describing

-- it looks like the Aluminum PowerBook had a built-in V.92 modem. I
probably still used that when I had one, back before WiFi was ubiquitous. Not
frequently, mind you, but in a pinch.
Back on topic, I actually thought the UC elevator sign might be LAX T6, but that seems too easy.
