ALL United Express flights offer valet gate-checking. Green tags are put on bags and those bags are returned in the jetway at the end of the flight.

Mainline United flights do not offer gate checking, with the exception of wheelchairs, strollers, car seats, etc. All gate-checked items on a mainline flight will get a white bag tag and go to baggage claim at the final destination.

Checking through to baggage claim at the final destination should also be available on United Express flights.

The CRJ-550 50-seat RJ has baggage closets so gate checking should not be necessary for anyone.
