Cat 6 and 6a it generally much faster and stable than an encrypted wi-fi connection with today's high-speed gigabit connections, but it depends on your router/switch setup. Cat 7/8 is also available but more expensive. many of the laptops i've seen run the lan connections through the USB-C/thunderbolt port/hub. Some have a lan port.
