Just a quick review - My family of 4 (kids ages 8 and 11) stayed here for 1 week in March and thoroughly enjoyed it. I'm usually a Hyatt girl, but I had some Hilton points to burn and the location couldn't be beat. It's often tough to even find a room for 4 in Europe, as many of you know, so my choices were to either stay at the Hyatt Churchill for 50k Hyatt points per night (staying in 2 separate rooms), or in a Nelson Double Queen room here for 117,000 Hilton points/night. That seemed like a no-brainer, though I did book an extra 2 nights on cash, since I didn't have enough points to cover the whole stay. I think we got really lucky with the room rates, both in terms of points and cash -- a few weeks after I booked, I checked again to see what the rates were, and the points cost for the same room had gone up to 200k a night and the cash rate had risen from 275 pounds to 550! We literally said to each other every day how much we were enjoying the room and how nice it was.
The hotel in general was great. The room was incredibly spacious, even by US standards, but especially for Europe. We thought it was stylish and in good condition as well. The bed linens and towels were very nice (love whatever detergent they use on them, everything always smelled so fresh), we had an amazing view out to Trafalgar Square and Canada House, the room was quiet and had lots of storage. Loved that the minibar was included and we certainly saved a lot of money on bottled water that way. I'm only Hilton Gold, but the manager sent up a note and plate of sweets on our first night there, plus the breakfast buffet was right up there with the best that I've experienced as a Hyatt Globalist. We were allowed to order espresso drinks and one a la carte dish each in addition to having full access to the buffet, which also included self-serve mimosas. We liked the avocado toast and eggs benedict off the menu, but the buffet also had plenty (eggs, hash browns, tomatoes, beans, mushrooms, sausage, bacon, pastries, breads, yogurts, cheeses, charcuterie, salad, cut fruit, several juices, etc.) Easily a $100+ breakfast for the four of us, free. Just a very, very good experience, and the room where they serve breakfast is nice too.
Location - can't be beat. Easy public transport on the tube, of course, but we also used the heck out of the bus system. I'm usually a bit more intimidated by buses vs subways, but London had one of the easier-to-understand systems we've experienced, and if you get the City Mapper app, it does a better job of directing you than Google Maps does. Easy walk to Covent Garden area (we enjoyed Brown's and Rossopomodoro a lot), to Oxford Street, St. James Park, Buckingham Palace, etc. We came prepared for it to be brisk and rainy, but we had spectacular weather overall - the only day it rained was when we were taking the kids to the Harry Potter studio tour anyhow! - and everything, everywhere seemed in bloom. Cherry blossoms, thousands of daffodils. Just lovely.
Would stay again in a heartbeat, but fear I won't have the points or cash again to do so anytime soon, as the rates we paid look rare. Absolutely don't hesitate if you get a chance, though.
