I do carry a *G tag on my carryon though normally, so maybe that makes a difference? I've had it actually before when leaving a DAA bag on a LH Cityline flight that the baggage loader first went to grab it, then seen the tag and left it until I have closed the pull handle, so maybe they are told to leave status tagged bags alone if possible?
