Prior to the seaweed invasion Puerto morelos was actual a cool place to visit. You could pay guys like 30-40usd to take you out snorkeling and the town was laid back. But this area has been wrecked by huge annual seaweed landings. Better off booking further north in cancun or further still in playa mujeres. Really the whole riviera maya area can get slammed with it. Puerto morelos to mayakoba, playa, akumal and tulum. On bad days it's unbelievable.

My inlaws went to Zoetry with friends. Demographic skews older north Americans. Said food was great but resort was tired and needed refresh. Beach was wrecked with seaweed.

I had a fun extended family trip to dreams sapphire. Food, pool, staff, and room were solid. Not too much seaweed when we were there. Not Four Seasons or Mayakoba quality but a solid family resort at a good value. Would recommend. I also think there is a relaxing psychological effect about chilling and having fun without grabbing for your wallet or signing a bill. Its like you have been totally transported outside of your normal life.

I am probably going to try out an AMR resort this summer. Will be sure to report back.
