Compared to other domestics, I find United economy plus seating to be really expensive. I recently had to book a flight for a relative and was shocked by pricing for exit row seats. For example PHX - EWR exit row seating, Jetblue charges $81 (for their PHX - JFK), American charges $67 and United charges $159. Is there something special United adds to the experience that justifies this kind of upcharge?
As a 1K, I've never paid for this and maybe should be thankful that these are so egregiously priced. But from a monetization standpoint doesn't make much sense to me.
United saves E+ seats for elites with last minute purchases. United may also award these seats to some BE buyers if the regular E seats are all taken in advance.
