Where will you be based? If you are moving to Europe, you don't need to worry about MQDs, only MQMs and as others said, it will depend on marketing carrier and you'll have to do the math before booking each flight.

100% sure. I was based in Paris and short CDG-AMS/CDG-GVA $100 light fare roundtrips generated 1000 MQMs.

It's not always best to book under the DL codeshare. You need to look at the numbers in each individual case. It can also matter whether you need MQDs vs MQMs, or whether you're mostly interested in RDMs.
This is exactly what I did in order to maximize my MQM earnings.
