For all properties we have stayed at, the FD with point or cert reservation, the FDs all wanted to see ID card. How the property would react at the particular property you would not be present at check in, is anybody's guess.
Rules are point booking can be for others but cert booking cannot. Do you want to have your friend tell the FD that some bloggers say this is allowed, that the cert owner not checked in, when the FD wants to see YOUR ID at check in, or even say, Oh, just wait till he comes he can show his ID?
Bottom line - it is depending on the Property because this is a very gray area. Some properties do not much care as long as the guest tell the FD "my friend will check in later because he is flying in" or whatever reason(s). Some properties still want the cert owner to show his face once arrives. There is no telling what might turn out. Very much YMMV situation.
