Good luck.
I want to add to Dan's itinerary. First off, keep abreast of traffic reports. 880AM on the 8's of every hour, 1010AM on the 1's, and 1150 on the 5's. Drive with an excellent road atlas.

If you see or hear that 87 North or 287 East are backed up due to any kind of accident or construction, you can take 87 North to the Cross County Highway east to the Hutchinson River Parkway North. It then becomes the Merritt Parkway in CT.

If you hear the Merritt is bad, you can take the Hutch to 684 North to 84 East. 84 East goes into Waterbury. I'm not saying that any of my suggestions won't have traffic issues but it's good to have alternative routes just in case. Just know that there are options.
