These services seem shaky at best. Gas prices are very high and these drivers are not being compensated for those increases in a timely manner so this has turned into somewhat of a mess. And it is only going to get worse as those drivers see the costs for tires, brakes, and other car maintenance related items are also spiking up.

I would say if you want control over the situation rent a car if you can. Obviously there are times to use these services that make sense (big city, parking fees, being drunk, etc.) and I guess in those times you have to roll with their flow. And given these are independent contractors it is the flow of that individual. You would hope the platform would punish drivers who arrive at a pick up then drive off but something tells me the platform doesn't care- another driver picked you up and the platform earned its fees from your ride. Drivers are harder and harder to come by due to the compensation structure/cost increases.
