SAA to get 17th CEO since 2001 as Kgokolo steps down

Thomas Kgokolo is stepping down as CEO of South African Airways at the end of April after he requested that his employment contract not be renewed. He was appointed as CEO just 12 months ago in April 2021.

He will be replaced by John Lamola, a former head of failed state enterprise Denel, who is presently serving as a Professor of Philosophy at the University of Johannesburg. Lamola has voiced some controversial and politically partisan statements about aviation policy in the recent past. He will be the 17th CEO appointment since 2001.
