Exactly what happened - I couldn't remember the exact words....
Anyhow, Gatwick (apparently) is not a destination which currently operates the print your own boarding pass option.
Most of my tickets with BA currently are Iberia codeshares which cannot be checked-in online or via self service anyway. Consequently I have had no expriences of online/self service since September. My ticket to Newcastle was purchased via the website and therefore I thought all would be well!
To reiterate what I was told - and confirmed by three members of staff - 'within the last week' it appears self service will not let you you collect your boarding pass from a self service machine after checking yourself in via the internet. Maybe the problem is mainly a Gatwick issue?

Err... is that the one with the revolving dance floor......
Just kidding, I've heard stories about the boat - a good friend of mine recently bought a house in 'Low Fell' and invited me to stay. It was tooo cold to venture out on the Friday (for me anyhow....) - easily minus degrees late evening. Therefore we settled for a couple of bottles of Laurent Perrier (courtesy of Tesco a few weeks earlier....

) watching 'Children in Need', however we did brave the elements and go for a curry in 'The Last night of the Raj' or something which was OK - before nearly slipping over on the ice on the way back to his house!
Anyhow, I will be sure to try some of those other places the next time I go to Newcastle, thanks! ^
