Had a weird one last week...
Flying from Manchester to Heathrow on Wednesday, back up on Thursday.
I checked in online on Tuesday, and used the Self Service machine to get my boarding card on Wednesday morning.
When I put in my card, I was given the option of checking-in for my return flight, which I took and got myself a front row seat - and printed out both boarding cards.
I thought this was a bit strange, as you can normally only check in for the return flight if you are day-tripping.
When I got to the gate for my return flight on Thursday, there was someone already boarded in 'my' seat - in fact, his name was on my receipt for my checked bag - and I had to go all the way back to row 23.
As it turned out, I snuck over to nab myself a full set of three seats to myself, so all was not lost.
Strange though...

Sometimes OLCI does not guarantee you the seat you have chosen, in fact BA make a point of spelling this out at each stage of the seat request/check in process. I once got turfed out of 1B on Concorde because someone far more important than I am had been assigned that seat (presumably as part of the manual edit pre physical check in). To be fair to BA though that is the only time in countless trips that I have ever been denied the seat I chose at OLCI.
