Yup, interestingly enough, although I've traveled to many international destinations, I've actually never been to the western part of the USA so I'm pretty much clueless as to the weather out there. I've been to Orlando and Miami in the summer July/August several times and the heat there is quite unbearable as well so you end up spending lots of time at the pool to beat the heat. Would you say the Phoenix heat is even worse and the pool isn't enough to off-set it?

I'm looking at going just prior to the July 4th weekend, would be leaving the Thursday or Friday prior.
