Since you're visiting family, is a day delay that horrible? I think I'd just have a back up plan for a day delay.
Fog shouldn’t/won’t be a problem during the late afternoon/evening hours. Biggest worry would be a rain system coming through if this is a flight during winter, but you can see those coming from a couple days out.
