I have fond memories of the West side of Shinjuku Station where the Keio store is right now. First time I went to Japan stayed at the Keio Plaza, and our "commute" would be along the road that runs directly between the hotel and the station entrance right by the Keio store. Even in the mid-1980s there was something dystopic and decrepit about that whole area, like something that was trying its hardest to shine and not get sucked into the 3-chome detritus, or even worse, Kabukicho.
