There is a 2 week notice period after which BA don't need to pay EC261 delay compensation. However right to care has no such timeframe on it, so if the travel can only be done with an added overnight stay then BA are on the hook for your claim after travel has completed. However look also at Iberia and Vueling options to see if there are other alternatives, BA can rebook you with these airlines.
