Sofitel Winter Palace Luxor [leaving Accor 1 May 2026]
Check In We arrived at 19u30 in the evening after a flight from Cairo. Beforehand I arranged an airport pick-up by the hotel. Upon arrival we were greeting by a very friendly doorman who escorted us towards reception. There, due to our Platinum status, we were asked to take a seat at the ALL priority welcome desk in the magnificent lobby. We also received a welcome juice (choice of three different options). Oh, don't expect to receive a fancy card to open the door of your room ;-). Old-fashioned keys are still in use here - marvelous! Room We booked a luxury room with garden view. This is exactly what we received, but this room had an enormous terrace, which was great. The garden view is truly spectacular since the garden is very well kept. The room, although not modern at all, had a great charm. Do not expect usb-outlets to charge your phone, nor a light switch that turn off all the lights at the same time, but I didn't mind. I simply loved it. Bathroom I have only got one picture of the bathroom. To be honest, the bathrooms are a bit outdated and could need some renovation, but again, the building is so beautiful that I didn't mind. Also all amenities were present and I loved the little rose on the sink. Instead of the curtains, they installed a glass wall next to the bathtub. This makes that if you take a shower, the complete bathroom gets flooded. Dining Breakfast is served in the 'La Corniche' restaurant. We also had dinner at the 1886 restaurant. It is fancy, true, but do not expect European Haute-Cuisine, which would not be possible because the prices were really reasonable compared to European restaurants. The food was nice but the atmosphere was really amazing. Since we did not plan to eat there beforehand, I didn't bring a tie, but no problem, they will lend you one with the logo of the hotel on it. Such a nice touch! The last evening, we ate in the garden where they set up a BBQ and a buffet. Again we ate really well. Also worth mentioning is the Royal bar, which serves excellent cocktails. Location The hotel is situated on the banks of the river Nile, next to the Luxor Temple. Overall We had a lovely stay at the Sofitel Winter Palace. There are plans to renovate the entire hotel, and some renders can be found on the Internet. I truely hope that some of these plans are going to be cancelled since they will take away the charm the hotel has. Let's wait and see for the future.
