I’m sure I’m not the only one that’s done the Shiretoko cruise. We did it in 2019. I remember our captain cracking jokes, saying he has extraordinary skills and then sped the boat through two rocks and then said something along the lines of “don’t try this at home.“ He did this in a cove right by one of the famous waterfalls on the route, possibly the one where the cruise sank over the weekend. A lot of the 11 people found dead were recovered near the cape at the tip of the peninsula which is some 15 km away from where the boat was alleged to have sank. Sign of how strong the current is around there.

This is very sad. I read that one of the missing passengers was planning to propose to another on this cruise.
