In any event, using the companion certificate in first pays for the Delta Amex Reserve a couple times over. No issues whatsoever booking the original trip a couple of weeks out.
a gentle reminder, you did not book DeltaOne, you booked domestic First class with an aircraft with lie-flat seats. Delta does not file D1 fares on JFK-DEN. This means no automatic lounge access, etc…and also that your lie-flat seats are not guaranteed in the event of an aircraft swap.
