Losari is very, very different form Amanjiwo. It is a more authentic central Java experience while staying at the plantation. I've been three times to amanjiwo and have done most of the things there are to do around the hotel. You know what a nightmare the traffic is traveling into Jogya and sights near Amanjiwo so I think its best to see things close by Losari. You must ride the old train,the temples of Gedong Songo, are all near by.
The Merapi Suite is the best after the Bella Vista villa. The food is great and as the owner is Italian. Spa was just opening when I was there so the treatments where a bit ruff but I'm sure there all worked out by now. The GM used to work for Amanwana so he knows what guest are looking for and comparing it to.Really nice pool, the central clubhouse is just perfect, and of course the coffee! The live music in the evening was wonderful jazz, such a nice change form all the gamelan music. If you need car and driver I have someone.Go its great!
