We were unable to valet our car because the curb was full every time we circled the block - which was 4 times. They didn't have enough valet staff to keep the cars moving, and given we had dinner reservations in less than an hour on Cap Hill, we had to find a garage and park. This was a little annoying but not a huge deal.
At check in, the front desk clerk was unapologetic about the parking situation, and mentioned he upgraded us to a "city view" room. This was an outright lie - the room we got was one of the base level rooms I could have selected in the app... and was one of the least desirable ones, with the headboard of the bed right next to the elevator. Although I'm not particularly happy about not receiving an upgrade on a 1 night stay (despite showing ample availability of water view rooms available for purchase online), I can deal with it if you don't lie to me. Maybe he wasn't happy that I complained about valet parking... who knows.
As for the room itself - it's got nice, high end touches. I appreciated that it wasn't too loud at night, despite the location of the elevator, although I think we got lucky because there were times while we were awake that the street noise was pronounced. Several items needed maintenance though - the motorized shade for the window between the bathroom and the room itself was broken. I'm still surprised to see how many hotels don't bother to caulk the escutcheon on the shower valve - this one was loose and water was getting in behind the shower wall. This is also the second LXR that I've been at where they give you 1-ply toilet paper. Again, really? That's where you want to pinch pennies? The towels were brand new... but never washed. They shedded lint on us like crazy and still have the small inspection stickers on the labels. There wasn't a clock in the bedroom, and the phone (which we used for room service) only worked on speakerphone.
Room service was a bright spot - the $50 in credits nearly paid for breakfast for both of us, save a few bucks, and the food was good and came quickly.
We paid nothing as we were on a free night certificate, but at $375 per night on a Saturday, this hotel was a complete ripoff at the cash rate. All three Hyatts downtown - the Regency, Olive 8, and the Grand were under $200 last night. The Fairmont Olympic was also cheaper, and having stayed there in the past, is light years ahead of the LXR. A lot of what we saw here is indicative of why we tend to stay at Hampton and HGI within the Hilton family and generally prefer Hyatt for mid and higher tier hotels and resorts. Hilton's standards are quite good at the lower end, but are overshadowed by others as you go up the brand ladder.
What a shame! This just seems to be on par for the LXR brand except for the LXR Kyoto....
