If there are no lie flats is it worth booking a J ticket vs an Economy with leg room? I see copa has some restricted fares that would let me build in a layover in Panama city on a restricted fare at a reasonable price point, although I couldn't pick my seat until at the airport and they might hassle me about the carry on not sure. Was looking to book a United award but not sure it is worth the use of points on this short of a route
The CM flight from JFK would be overnight. the UA flight would be a daytime flight. IMO the daytime flight would be more tolerable on UA in E+ since it is only ~5 hrs (about a transcon) and you won't get much sleep. I've flown CM J as part of a stopover with a Caribbean award itinerary when the rules were less strict. The seat is OK. Service is great. I would take a daytime UA flight if it did it over again but that wasn't available at that time/routes. I'm not sure if it's worth redeeming on their barcolounger vs. saving for other intl J.
