I fly DEL-NYC 7-8 times a year on DL & have been doing so for almost 10 years now. DL has no flights out of DEL so my trip ends up being DEL to Europe on either VS, KL or AF & then on to JFK mostly on DL. All flight are on First/Business/Upper Class.
So I usually end up flying VS Upper Class from DEL-LHR 3-4 times a year before connecting on DL D1 from there. I can honestly say that D1 on DL is far superior & more comfortable. As others have stated, you will have access to the lounge in LHR so you get to have that experience. The only thing you miss out on is the onboard lounge & once again, its nothing special. In over dozens of flights with VS, I've maybe used the lounge a couple of times.
