All of the feedback has been very helpful. Learning about the odds of an above-TSU upgrade is pretty much what I was looking for. If it were "likely" then I'd further consider it (like I've seen people doing paid upgrade and then getting pushed up to a premium suite). But I don't think it's worth it for a maybe at best, especially for a one-night stay.

I definitely would want to use it for a longer stay, but most of my leave-draining, aspirational travels (already over 1 month of travel planned) are taking me to "Hyatt deserts" so I already know it's going to be tough to do 4 optimal TSUs. I have some SLH stays but they don't do TSUs. Still, it doesn't sound worth it in this instance.
