Stayed 30 nights here as a globalist. Got upgraded to the Andaz Suite, and it was a fantastic stay. I literally had to fight housekeeping to let me clean up the slightest mess I made. The location is truly unbeatable for downtown San Diego.
Food is the greatest part of the stay though. Breakfast on the rooftop is spectacularly good, and you get full recognition as globalist ie no nickel and diming. You eat as much as you want, and it’s comped.
the hidden secret of this place though is happy hour downstairs at STK. From 3-6 on weekdays they have very good food and cocktails. I’m talking getting west coast dining at mid-west prices. You can gorge yourself for under $20 on all kinds of delicacies.
I actually just checked out of a one night stay due to coming back to the city for personal reasons. They emailed ahead welcoming me back, and upgraded me to the Star Suite. If you ever need a place to splurge, that suite is unreal. I’m talking quad shower heads, giant mirrors on the ceiling, and more quirks and features than Doug DeMuro could possibly list off.
highly, highly recommended.
edit: the exterior rooms (with a view) can get pretty noisy if you crack a window. The Andaz suites are interior facing, so they’re pretty quiet
