I would take the connection in CLT, as long as it isn't scheduled on a CRJ. Anything under an hour in MIA makes me extremely nervous, and while an hour in CLT isn't the best, it's a relatively small airport as long as you're not arriving at the commuter gates. Yes, the 5:30 flight out of STL is from the night before. We fly STL-xxx-SXM, and generally have the same dilemma. Last three times, we left a day early and spent the night in CLT or MIA to avoid the devil's choice connection (35 mins in CLT coming from Terminal E or 52 mins in MIA). AA presented us with.
