If you want to indulge in a bit of Singapore history, walk across the street to the Raffles hotel and go to the Long Bar, where tigers used to lurk under the pool tables and where the famous Singapore Sling was first concocted.

Definitely explore Raffles, but I'd avoid the Long Bar as it's a tourist trap. I find it more pleasant either to use the small Writers' Bar in the main lobby or the bar and seafood restaurant that's outdoors in the courtyard (good views of the building as well as a bit of people watching). In the past, there was live music in the evenings here.
Thanks for your advice. I remember I wanted to visit the Raffles in 2019 on a Sat afternoon and was turned away by the door boy (well likely because I was in shorts and flip flops and not a hotel guest) so I assume if I wear something decent this time I'll be able to come in even when not staying in the hotel.. will definitely go there then.
