I think people are taking this Venture X versus Amex Platinum thing a bit too far...
1) American Express has a much better reputation for overall service levels than Capital One amongst the average traveler (this is by far the most important comparison in this)
2) Amex Platinum is, paradoxically, an easier card to get than Capital One's premium travel cards
3) C1 lounge access isn't comparable - there is currently 1 open C1 lounge with 2 others known to be under construction - there are 12 Centurion Lounges and ~50 SkyClubs domestically
4) Easier to earn MR with companion cards like Amex Green or Gold
