Australia requires masks in all airports and "inflight". It's specifically called out that they are required on all flights TO Australia so they are still going to be required on LAX-SYD, but it's not clear if the Australian rules would cover flights departing Australia, or when the requirements would stop (Boarding? Takeoff? Outside of Australian air space?), or whether the flag of the carrier would matter (UA v's Qantas, for example).
